Briar Rose Floral Design Co. is a South Carolina based wedding and special event floral designer serving Columbia, Fort Jackson and the surrounding areas.

Whitley, the owner and head designer at Briar Rose specializes in boutique and bespoke floral design. Whitley has a unique style that encompasses both American and European styles after living and perfecting her craft for 2 years in Italy. She loves organic shapes and textures, as well as loves going foraging for those extra special touches that make the piece memorable, and one of a kind! Briar Rose only takes on a select amount of weddings each year, which allows each couple to receive her full attention and care. At Briar Rose, we will always use local suppliers, and produce whenever we can.

Whitley is an Indiana University Graduate with a degree in Outdoor Recreation/Resource Management, and a Minor in Parks and Recreation Administration. Whitley is a military spouse, and her style, and love for flowers blossomed even more, when they lived at an Italian Villa where she had fresh cut arrangements from the gardens in her home at all times! After living in their Italian Villa (Villa Piovene Fracanzan), and seeing the little 3 wheeled trucks Piaggio Apes, Whitley dreamed of making one into a flower truck. Less than a month away from moving, her dreams turned into a reality when they were able to buy “Rosie” a 1988 Ape, to ship back to the States!

Meet Whitley

Design has always been an important aspect of my life. Even at a young age, I was invested, interested and fascinated in the way doing something just a little different could give you such a different result, and one that can create so much happiness! Starting around 7 or 8 years old, my mom would come upstairs to see what I was doing after not hearing from me for a couple hours. She would find my entire room moved around, with the straggling pieces left in the hallway, waiting their turn to be put into their new home. Growing older decorating, and rearranging furniture is still one of my favorite past times, but now adding in one of my fresh arrangements is, of course, a must and just as important to complete the new look!  Although interior design and floral design are a completely different medium, just like when I was a child, I am still just as determined and excited as ever to create something beautiful and unique, not only for myself but for my clients as well. I am personally invested in every single piece and want all of my arrangements to put a smile on the many faces that may see them.

Q + A

I need pricing on my wedding flowers – can you give that to me over e-mail?

Yes and no. Flowers have a very wide range of pricing, from 50 cents a stem to over $25 a stem. Even the style of design can make a difference in pricing. Some of the more organic and artistically designed pieces take much longer to make, often time calling for many more stems. This therefore makes them cost more than a single flower type placed in a water tube. I recommend all my clients to start with a total budget number. This is usually anywhere from 5-15% of your total wedding budget. We will work with you to decide the best way to allocate the total budget on your needs. We strongly suggest an in-person consultation to get an accurate quote of exactly what you’d like.

Do you have a minimum package price?

Our small package starts at $1500, however we do offer our services “A la Carte.” We know what it’s like to be on a budget and we will do our best to work within your price range. If you are only needing a Bridal Bouquet and something at the end of the aisle for an elopement, we will not charge you a “minimum price.” You will select “A la Carte” and we will figure out the total.

*Please note that for “A La Carte” or the “small package” costing $1,500 or less delivery is NOT included. You must pick up at our location.

What/who should I bring to a consultation?

Briar Rose Floral Design Co. recommends you bring any images you’ve seen of flowers, arrangements, colors, and any other ideas that you’re thinking of for your event. Yes, a pinterest board is great but please print it off (in color) so we can have a copy in hand in the studio. You’re also welcome to bring along a trusted member of your family or bridal party to help with decisions. However often times we find a too crowded consultation table can result in too many opinions, therefore causing more stress on the whole group! We suggest bringing along just one or 2 extra people is typically the most productive.

Can you MAKE aN example of my centerpiece?

We reserve examples for the Large package of $2500 or more. Examples are done approximately 4-5 weeks prior to the wedding, which allow for as accurate and in-season flowers as possible.

Can our guests take home all of the arrangements and containers?

This can vary by event. Simple centerpiece containers are typically included with arrangement costs, and are welcome to be taken home by guests at the end of the evening. Please look at your contract to verify you fit this category.  More elaborate items, such as lanterns, stands, and oversized vases/containers, including any LED lights, votives, candles or candle holders, are not to be taken by guests at the end of the evening. All rental items will be clearly stated in your event contract.

I saw this arrangement/concept in a photo that I really liked, but you didn’t have something similar on your site – can you still make it?

Always ask, give me and example and I will tell you if its possible! I love new ideas and trying new things! Whether it be a suspending garland, an arch, or filling a boat with blooms we will be able to tell you yes or no!

What do we do with the rental items?

All rental items must be returned to Briar Rose Floral Design Co. the Tuesday following your event. Boxes/totes for transporting rental items will be provided by your floral designer. All rented items need to be returned cleaned, and undamaged. Please use the wrapping provided to ensure nothing breaks. If items are returned damaged or broken, the credit card on file will be charged for purchasing replacements.

What is the delivery charge and what does it include?

Delivery charges will vary depending on the floral package you select and the delivery distance. Delivery includes drop off at the location(s) of your choice. Delivery does not include any setup or transfer charges. Full service package options are available for delivery, setup and transfer. Additional travel fees may apply if your delivery location falls outside of a 40-mile radius.

Can we see live samples of different flowers?

You can ask your designer at your consultation; it may be possible to show you some live samples at that time. (Note: special requests to view live samples may require additional fees.)

Traditionally, for whom will I need to provide floral for my wedding?

Your bridal bouquet, the groom's boutonniere, bouquets and boutonnieres for your bridesmaids and groomsmen are the first things to think about. Next up: corsages and boutonnieres for parents, grandparents, godparents, ushers, readers, attendants, ring bearers, flower girls, and any other important participants in your wedding.

What happens if the flowers I want aren’t in season on my wedding date?

Your designer will know during the planning stages whether or not your preferred blooms will be available on your date. If not, they can advise you of some alternatives.

Is there a minimum order?

The minimum order amount depends on the level you choose. The minimum order is calculated before service fees and tax. Please contact Briar Rose Floral Design Co. for more information.

On which side should the men wear their boutonnieres?

Traditionally, corsages and boutonnieres should be pinned on the left side of the body. (Wrist corsages are typically worn on the left wrist as well.)

Do you preserve the bridal bouquet?

We do not offer preservation services at this time.
